Mary O. Adams Buchholz is holding the reins, sitting sidesaddle on a horse. She wears a hat, scarf and riding gloves. The horse has a white blaze on the forehead. They are posing on a trail, in front of a rock outcropping. Mary was a niece of U.S. President John Quincy Adams. She married Nick Buchholz in 1866.
