Former United States President's Theodore Roosevelt and William Howard Taft stayed at the Hotel Colorado during their presidencies. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 26, 1977.

Former United States President Harry Truman speaks to a crowd from the back of the presidential railcar, "Ferdinand Magellan" while on a whistle stop tour in 1952. Truman was campaigning for Adlai Stevenson. This was taken during Truman's stop in Glenwood Springs in October of 1952. His daughter, Margaret Truman, accompanied him. A sign on the railcar reads, "Vote Stevenson and Sparkman."
