A postcard of the Basalt Public School. The Basalt Public School was originally located in a small one-room frame structure until the late-1890s. The school was relocated to this building, which sat on the border between Eagle County and Pitkin County. In 1902, the building was expanded from a one-room school house to a four-room, two story brick building, pictured here. The bell was removed from the bell tower in 1914, due to structural concerns,...
