A close-up view of the central building (originally "Central Hall") of Taylor Hall, 1938. The stairway and entry doors have been modified several times over the years. The conifer on the right was removed by 2001; most of the others were removed circa 2011 during the latest Taylor Hall renovation.

A panoramic view of the "Temporary Auditorium" in Central Hall under the present auditorium. Construction on Central Hall had begun prior to 1920, but by that year President Quigley moved scarce funds to construct (old) Colorado Hall, a badly-needed women's dormitory. Upper floors of Central Hall would be completed in 1927 connecting North Hall (WSC) and South Hall (Gunnison High School.)

In 1918 funds were raised by Gunnison County, and in 1919 Gunnison High School was built south of the existing Normal School building. A "basement" connecting the two buildings was soon built, but a completed "Central Hall" would not become a reality until 1930. The wire fence was an attempt to keep open range cattle off campus grounds. (Note the grazing bovines on the left in the photo.)

View of North Hall, Gunnison County High School (later South Hall) and the first floor of Central Hall from the west, circa 1923. Central Hall began as a basement linking the two buildings; in 1923 the tar paper roof over the section "had become badly torn, and the college did not have funds [$1,000] for the repair..." --Abbott Fay, "Mountain Academia".
